Date: 2/25/2015, Author: Haiyang Si, Adrian Hada. Ixia ATI’s second strikepack of 2015 brought an implementation of one of the latest drafts of HTTP/2 (HTTP2-draft-ietf-httpbis-http2-15 and HPACK-draft-ietf-httpbis-header-compression-10). The successor to 15-year-old HTTP/1.1 brings a lot of changes to the table – some highly anticipated, others strongly criticized. The changes aim to make HTTP/2 a more efficient protocol, reducing latency and making more efficient use of the underlying connections and bandwidth. There are very few options available for HTTP/2-compatible clients, servers, and websites at the time of writing, so it’s difficult to make a full-scale comparison. However, some points can be made about the way the protocol will work.
