Deploying a Layered Visibility and Cybersecurity ArchitectureKeith BromleyThu, 07/19/2018 - 08:10

There is a fundamental shift in government cybersecurity happening. This includes new directives like President Trump's Executive Order 13800 which mandates that all government agencies adopt the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Framework for Improving Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity. Part of the new executive order mandates government networks to operate within a context that supports an Identify, Protect, Detect, Respond, and Recover approach. The shift includes all of the network, not just security-focused appliances and solutions.

Read this whitepaper to learn about the following three actions to consider for strengthening network security and eliminating component obsolescence of critical infrastructure components:

  • Understand why your security and visibility architectures should be integrated
  • Understand the concept of security resilience and how it helps cybersecurity
  • Discover how to deploy a visibility architecture to support the NIST cybersecurity initiative

NB-IoT Success Hinges on Overcoming 3 Challengescheryl.ajluni@…Fri, 07/27/2018 - 12:21

While opportunities abound in the industrial IoT (IIoT) these days, there’s one key problem. Most currently available wireless technologies are ill-equipped to meet the requirements of the rapidly growing IIoT without some sort of tradeoff. Narrowband-IoT (NB-IoT) technology is a low data rate, long-range addition to the LTE network and is specifically optimized for use in IIoT applications like smart metering and the smart grid, where robust coverage and scalability to very large numbers of devices are critical.

Ensuring NB-IoT devices and systems are fully optimized for successful use in the IIoT requires critical attention to three key challenges. This Keysight Technologies white paper details those challenges and offers you solutions for overcoming them to help you quickly realize success in NB-IoT.

A mobile network operator, with operations spanning Northern and Eastern Europe, was looking to expand its mobile and data services offering into the Internet of Things (IoT). It identified two emerging cellular IoT technologies—NB-IoT and LTE-Cat-M1 (LTE-M)—as prime methods for delivering that service, but needed to better understand the real-world performance of those technologies. The operator wanted technical validation that its network could meet the quality and coverage requirements necessary to support its IoT business case. Read this case study to learn how the network operator successfully completed its NB-IoT/Cat-M1 pilot project, while reducing its network optimization time by 50% and improving network quality by 25%.

Ixia, a Keysight Business, First to Offer Packet-level Visibility into Workloads in Containers and Kubernetes Clusters

SANTA ROSA, Calif., August 7, 2018 – Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), a leading technology company that helps enterprises, service providers, and governments accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, announced it has extended the Ixia CloudLens visibility platform to offer packet-level visibility into workloads in containers and Kubernetes clusters.

Containers are becoming more popular in cloud environments. Gartner reports that “container popularity will continually increase over the next 18 to 24 months.”1 Gartner also finds that “by 2020, more than 50 percent of global enterprises will be running containerized applications in production, up from less than 20 percent today.”1 In addition, as enterprises run applications on physical hardware, virtualized platforms, in public cloud infrastructures and Kubernetes containers clusters, they expand the cloud attack surface.

Ixia CloudLens, a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution available online 24/7, delivers end-to-end cloud visibility. CloudLens is the first and only solution on the market today to deliver packet visibility into containers and Kubernetes clusters across cloud platforms including AWS Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (EKS), Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).

“The lack of granular access to cloud traffic creates blind spots which could compromise application performance or security, resulting in degraded customer experience and increased network security risk,” said Scott Register, vice president, product management for Keysight’s Ixia Solutions Group. “By expanding CloudLens support to containers, we offer the packet-level visibility that security and network teams need to diagnose critical security and performance issues in their container-based environments all in one platform.”

The CloudLens platform was designed from the ground up to retain the benefits of the cloud – elastic scale, flexibility, and agility, while enabling security, analytics, and forensics tools to acquire the needed packet-level data. Now, CloudLens enables packet visibility into workloads on physical, virtual, cloud, container or in Kubernetes clusters maximizing the organization’s existing investment in Application Performance Management (APM), Network Performance Management (NPM) and Intrusion Detection (IDS) tools.

CloudLens helps customers gain visibility into containers and Kubernetes environments on the same host or across hosts – by providing traffic forwarding to cloud monitoring and security tools to proactively detect intrusions and analyze security threats. Its unique GUI allows users to easily set-up and manage their cloud monitoring environment for any cloud and Kubernetes cluster from a single pane of glass.

Ixia, a Keysight Business, Delivers Complete Visibility into All Traffic in Virtual Workloads in Private Cloud Environments

CloudLens offers East-West traffic visibility without requiring hypervisor access

SANTA ROSA, Calif., August 14, 2018 – Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS), a leading technology company that helps enterprises, service providers, and governments accelerate innovation to connect and secure the world, today announced Cloud Sensor vTap, a new feature of CloudLens from Ixia, a Keysight Business. Cloud Sensor vTap enables organizations to better manage their security risk in private and hybrid cloud environments, such as Microsoft Azure Stack, with comprehensive visibility into East-West traffic without requiring hypervisor access.

The rapid increase in cloud adoption has heightened the need for securing data, applications, and workloads that reside in any cloud-based environment. In fact, in a recent Ixia survey, Lack of Visibility Drives Public Cloud Security Risk1, 82 percent of IT professionals indicated they are concerned with security and data privacy in the private cloud.

“Private cloud environments, in which access to the underlying hypervisor platform and virtual switches is not possible, present unique visibility challenges,” said Scott Register, vice president of product management at Keysight’s Ixia Solutions Group. “Organizations have a limited view of virtualized network traffic which creates network blind spots for virtual or physical datacenter security, monitoring, and analytics tools.  Cloud Sensor vTap delivers the visibility needed into incoming and outgoing traffic from a particular virtual workload, significantly improving overall security of private and hybrid cloud environments.”

Ixia CloudLens, with the new Cloud Sensor vTap, is a comprehensive visibility solution for virtual network traffic in private clouds, offering customers visibility into their east/west network traffic in environments where the administrator has no hypervisor access -- to virtually tap (vTap) or capture, filter and forward a copy network traffic directly to either tools or a network packet broker. CloudLens also includes a new management platform for sensors, the CloudLens Sensor Management Platform (CSMP). Coupled with the CloudLens Manager for integrated and easy management, sensors can be deployed on premises, even in security tight environments without Internet access.
